Hien and Brandon asked us to photograph their Vietnamese Tea Ceremony and it was a great reminder of what a huge honor it is to have this job. This job allows us to be invited into the most exciting days and most precious moments of peoples lives. It truly is a gift. And Hien and Brandon’s wedding day felt like the sweetest gift of them all.
The Vietnamese Tea Ceremony is so beautiful
Hien and Brandon started their wedding day with a traditional Vietnamese Tea Ceremony. This ceremony was incredible to witness. Brandon’s family and friends lined the sidewalk to Hien’s home, with gifts in hand as they waited permission for Hien’s hand in marriage. Hien was escorted by her mom into the living room and the most beautiful ceremony I’ve ever seen or photographed began to take place. In the Vietnamese Tea Ceremony, gifts and wishes are given to the bride and groom by each member of the family. They start with the oldest member, offering tea and accepting gifts and continue until they’ve received warm wishes from each guest.
We loved the tradition of the Vietnamese Tea Ceremony
The ceremony was spoken only in Vietnamese and as a result we didn’t understand the words exchanged, we felt the heart behind every moment. Even without knowing the language, this ceremony brought Megan and I to tears. It was precious to watch such special words spoken out of love, covering the bride and groom. This was the most wonderfully sweet ceremony and because of that I will forever be thankful I got to experience.
Hien and Brandon kept the celebrations going
After the ceremony, we all celebrated with Vietnamese food and later headed to the Central Library for an outfit change and another ceremony. This time Hien and Brandon shared a first-glance in her bridal gown and his reaction was perfect. The library is my all-time favorite place to take photos and we found some gorgeous moments on it’s beautiful grounds. Hien and Brandon’s reception was so fun. Family members were honored, thoughtful toasts were given, the dance floor was packed. This day was so much fun and so perfect.
We love the Central Library
The Central Library remains one of our favorite venues in Indy. We have celebrated some of the most beautiful days with some of the most wonderful couples in their space. Including Liz and Andrew, Danielle and Brian and Greg and Kristina. We were thrilled to add Hien and Brandon to our list of favorite Central Library days.
